• Provide policies & guidelines for control of Tran boundary livestock diseases
• To design and implement integrated programmes for control of Tran boundary livestock diseases
• To provide skills for planning and implementation of animal disease control programmes to local government authority staff,
• To control non infectious diseases
• To facilitate provision of animal health services for control of Livestock Diseases in disadvantaged areas
• Monitor and draw up programmes for the control of skin diseases that affects quality of hides and skins
• To set up disease free zones facilitate formulation and implementation of disease control in the zones for promotion of export of livestock and livestock products.
• Provide policies & guidelines for conducting zoosanitary inspections and quarantines to LGAs
• To regulate in country and international movement of livestock and livestock commodities
• To enforce and create awareness on Zoosanitary regulation.
• To provide inspectorate and international certification services for animals and animal products
• To undertake disease risk assessment and prevent entry of exotic diseases
• To put in place and enforce systems of animal identification and traceability
• To provide skills for supervision of livestock movement to LGAs
• To establish and maintain quarantine facilities for livestock export
