Livestock Information from the Regions

Tanzania has 26 administrative Regions, 21 in the Mainland and 5 in Zanzibar Island by 2006 with Manyara Region being the most recent ones that has been curved out from Arusha Region in 2005.
Livestock of different types are kept at different levels in regions ranging from those regions known to be predominantly livestock production ones with over and above 500,000 heads of cattle which include  regions such as Shinyanga, Mara, Mwanza, Arusha, Tabora, Dodoma and Singida. Other regions that cattle and other livestock were in the past very few are of recent coming up as a result of livestock migrations from the northern regions and these new areas include Mbeya, Rukwa, Morogoro, Lindi and Coast regions. In all regions livestock plays a significant role in the socio-economy of the people and district authorities that is quite substantial in areas where livestock populations are high.
