The National Livestock Policy aims at stimulating development in livestock industry in order to exploit the available resource with due concern for the conservation of environment. The policy emphasizes the importance of competitive markets; commercialized livestock industry, addition of value of livestock products and sustainable livestock development. The policy is amongst many of the initiatives that invites and opens the doors to the private sector investments. The section perform the following activities:
- Coordinate review of ministerial policies and update them for current requirements
- Coordinate review of policy papers prepared by other ministries and see their relationship to the ministry before submission to cabinet
- Scrutinize and advise on other ministries' papers in lieu of ministry position
- Evaluate the country's sectoral situation on current matters e.g.drug abuse, AIDS, human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism, environment etc
- Coordinate bilateral multilateral interregional and sub regional matters in the sector
- Prepare memorandum of understanding for projects/programmes for international financing and cooperation
- Compile implementation reports on Ruling Party Manifesto and Parliamentary Committee reports
- Advise the Ministry on international policies relevant to the sector
- Review of macro and sectoral policies and assessment of their impact in the sector
- Analyze and compile divisional policies, guidelines and proposals and ensure consistency with national policies and guidelines
- Analyze and compile divisional set standards ensure consistency with national formats and policies and communicate to MDA
- Analyze and compile divisional progress reports and ensuring consistency to formats
